When I open the BBS homepage, within 3 to 5 seconds I get a message from
IE, Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Explorer site http://www.windowsbbs.com/index.php?. Operation aborted.

But if I quickly jump to one of the forums before this message appears, all is OK. Any ideas.

Interesting (and nasty) behavior. I don't have an immediate answer but have you dumped your temp internet files, cookies, and history?

Have you run spybot and adaware yet? (download links in the quicklinks)

Are you behind a proxy server? Anything unusual about your ISP (upstream proxy?), or your internet connection having unusual latency(satillite)?

    Newt,

No I have not dumped any internet history yet.

    JoeHobart,

You may be onto something with the satellite side of things. We are on a digital microwave link from here at Kiunga to a town called Tabubil, then via a satellite link through to Port Moresby. Well we were up till a couple of weeks ago. Our link was via IS 804, which decided to spit the dummy out about two weeks ago. As far as I know, it lost all power, so they cannot even de-orbit it in a controlled fashion. We were off the air, along with most of the Pacific Ocean region, for about 1 week.

I do not know what link we are utilizing at the moment, be it another satellite or via 4 microwave repeater links back to Port Moresby. This could cause additional latency. I will check with some of the technicians I know at our local telco. After thinking about it, this has only been happening since this satellite problem arose. But on the other side of the coin, to date, Windowsbbs is the only site that I am having this problem with. I will see what I can find out from the telco and advise.

    Regards

    Graham Weston
