    Hi,

I run AOL8.0 on Win98se with IE6 SP1, yesterday I was unable to download anything from the web (I mainly d/l skins from flightsim sites) as I kept getting a message from IE stating that 'Microsoft Internet Explorer cannot download' - 'the site is either unavailable or cannot be found'. This appeared after the d/l box, at all sites I visited, which hung each time whether right clicking and 'save as' or left clicking the file.

I understand there was a problem like this with IE6 but I thought it was repaired in the SP1 (which I installed form windows update). AOL tried to help (bless 'em) but this ended in me having to uninstall and re-install AOL and I have not logged on to see if my problem is fixed - the wife had had enough of me being on this issue for 6 hours !!!!

I do have Norton Internet Security 2004 but this has never been a problem before - its been installed for several weeks - this problem just manifested itself yesterday out of the blue. Although I did run a windows update the other day which installed some critical update stuff etc.

If this problem persists is there anything I can do to resolve it ?? Uninstalling IE6 perhaps and re-installing IE5.5 ?? Any settings in 'internet options' ??

    Any guidance gratefully recieved,

    Mick

You can download IE6 SP1, by pasting the following direct link in the browser. Which will prompt you to save the file:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie6sp1/finrel/6_sp1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/ie6setup.exe

Or you can also right click on the file you are trying to download and click on save target as.

And the only other option is to download IE from the Windows Update site.

You can access Windows Update by clickin on Tools then Windows Update in Internet Explorer.

Or you can directly access Windows Update site at:
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

    Lets see if this works!!!!!

    Daxer,

Thanks but i've already got IE6 SP1 installed and run Windows update regularly. Its all in my post.

The problem appears to have gone now any way - could it have been a bandwidth problem at ALL sites I visited ??

Doubt it. Probably a problem at your ISP
