Resolved IE 8 won't finish installing

    After installing IE 8 it says to reboot to finish installation. Upon rebooting I get a dialog box in the upper left corner that says optimizing your browser settings. Box just stays there and freezes. In order to get back to my desktop I have to reboot in the safe mode and delete IE 8. Have tried a number of times but can't install.

    optimizing your browser settings-> did you let it run for more then 30 minutes?

    I let it run for 10 minutes but nothing happened. The screen was frozen.

    Would waiting 30 minutes solve the problem?

    Hi that10pin. I would wait for at least 30 minutes and see if the dialog box unfreezes itself and allows you to enter your desktop.

    If that doesn't work then there could be a 3rd party program that is interfering with the installation of IE8. I would try starting your computer in a clean boot state, install IE8, reboot and then see if the installation succeeds. How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state.

    Installed IE 8 today without incident. don't know why it installed so easily, so go figure.
