    Hello,

I am unable to connect to the Internet with IE 6, but Firefox 1.5 works fine. Pc-Cillin also does NOT connect for upgrades. Another oddity is that FTP connections in IE 6 seem to work fine.

Through another forum, I found out that if I open a webpage through My Computer, it also connects just fine.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Truthiswithin

Are you running a firewall and is it set to allow IE access?

Yes, I tried to repair according to the website you gave, no luck. It actually seemed to conflict with the Intel Wireless driver, which I have now removed. Never had a problem with it before.

Thanks for the help, please let me know if there is anything else you can think of.

    Best wishes,

Outlook will not connect to server

I am having the same problem. Recently, Outlook Express stopped connecting to the ISP server. I have found that if I turn off the firewall in Norton Internet Security that I can connect just fine. OE is listed in the firewall exclusions and I cannot find anything that has changed. I would like to know if you are using Norton also.

Nope, no Norton. Windows Firewall is off, I have Trend Micro on, but then I always have and IE 6 has always worked. Even when I unload all the Trend Micro stuff, no go.

    Same (but different) problem . . .

My OE works just fine. However, I can't seem to download anything from 'ftp' sites but 'http' sites work fine.

Tried the repair that the elder geek suggests and it won't. It works at it for a while and then I get an error message that it didn't complete.

I can't get a download from 'ftp' sites with Firefox either. Really !!!

I think I'll just shoot this thing and go back to the stone age. :D :D

    Solved

    Dear Friends,

Thanks for the ideas. Using a tool to watch for file requests, I found that IE 6 was requesting freshdownload every time it loaded, then freezing there. I uninstalled FD, and voila. Must be a bug. Sorry for the trouble.
