I was not able to find this in search so here goes. All of the sudden my IE will not open any ezboard.com related site or fourm. I belong to may fourms and now cant use them. All other sites work fine????? I have run virus scan and pest patrol also emptied cookies and temps and even did a restore to a date when it was working. Any ideas....Thank...Mike

If you are running 2K/XP/2K3, try clicking on start, on run, keying in
    Code:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    and clicking OK.

If that doesn't help or if you are running an older OS version, take a look in your hosts file for any entries containing ezboard.com. A critter may have caused them to be mis-directed. Easy to find out by simply putting # at the beginning of each line with an ezboard entry which will turn the line into an inactive comment then saving the file and closing it.

Im sorry if I did not include enough info. I am running XP/Pro with IE6 I have Norton antivirus and Pest Patrol(both up to date). I tried the config thing and no change. How do I find my Host file and I will try and do as you said but I am a little unsure of myself.

hosts file - assuming you have a normal XP install on C:\ will be in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and you want the one that has no extension. It's a simple text file so notepad is great for opening and editing it.

Probably your best bet at this point is to open the file (if you have one - many PCs do not and it is not a problem), copy the contents, and paste it here. Easy then to walk you through any specific edits that need doing.

It is also worth a shot to just rename it to HOSTS.OLD and operate without it unless you happen to know of some specific program you have added that uses it.

It's a dinasaur left over from the creation of the Internet when automatic DNS wasn't invented yet and has little value now.

Ok if I did it right here is the contents.....

    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.

    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

I don't see any problem there. You trouble must be elsewhere. The 127.0.0.1 is you of course. That's an empty file essentially.

It could be an Internet problem. Routing problem do happen from time to time and can affect some sites and not others.

It happened to me a while back. I couldn't raise zdnet stateside on my cable hookup but could get the UK site just fine. My sons computer was running dial up and Net Zero, he could get both sites just fine. I complained and my ISP gave me the "it's an Internet routing problem" story and sure enough, it went away in a couple of days.

If you're using dial up, try an alternate number if you have one.

In your address bar, type the following line or just try clicking on the link.

    http://209.66.118.18

It should take you to ezboard.com. Can you get there using it?

That pretty well takes DNS resolution out of the equation. We've eliminated the HOSTS file. Not much easy pickin's left. We can still hope for the routing problem and a self heal. :)
