    Hi all
My IE 6.0.2800 will sometimes lockup my computer when I go to open it while online. When I go to Windows Task Manager to try to close it down I can't get any action to take place. It requires a restart. I have read other posts with similar problems but can't find solution. I have gone to Control Panel to "add or change programs" to try to repair IE. Problem is when I follow the steps it seems to go right into unstalling the program. I get message "requires a restart" after this action. My concern is it will actually start the unstalling process. So the "repair" road was not done and even so there is no assurance it would be the answer.
I have deleted cookies and temporary files, run Adaware. I have run Norton Utilities (no problems). I use NAV and the Windows XP firewall is turned on.
    Using DSL for online connection.
    Would appreciate any suggestions.

Anytime Internet Explorer starts acting squirrely, the first thing to try is to download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. Hopefully, IE will work long enough to let you download them.

They're pretty easy to use but if you get stuck, Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found.

Please post back with the results.

    Occassion IE freezeup

    Thanks MIZ for the reply.
I did download & install Spybot and cleaned out some trash that Adaware did not show. However I still ocassionally get a freezeup when I try to open IE.

Budo - with XP the browser would not actually be removed. Only the piece used for the user front end so you wouldn't see that you still had IE loaded. It just isn't possible to remove IE from XP and have XP continue to function.

If you have a normal XP install CD (as opposed to the Recovery things that some OEMs provide with their systems) try start~run~sfc /scannow. Also a good idea (quick and harmless and may help) would be start~run~cmd and at the prompt, chkdsk /f and give the system permission to do the deed. Will require a reboot.
