    Hi Phyllis
Have you tried doing a repair to IE, through add/remove?

    Hi

I know this is too obvious BUT did anyone click on 'clear history' by mistake ? Not sure where the folder is for these files but check there to see if it is empty also.

Sorry if this is all too obvious but sometimes someone like me who doesn't know a lot may see the simple things first

    IE 6 history help

When I click on history the only thing that appears is the today folder which is always empty. No choice for yesterday, last week, etc. I've been through the menues and it seems that it is setup correctly. Is there another place or something that is interferring?
    Please advise. Thank you.

    repair ie

I don't have any disks for the software that is running on my hp computer. If I remove IE 6 will I be able to reinstall it from a download site from Microsoft?

    Hi, Phyllis ~

If you do a hit 'Search' at the top of this page, you will find at least 50+ posts regarding removing IE 6 and reinstalling it from a download site from Microsoft. ;)

What O/S are you running Phyllis? You should be able to go to add/remove....... choose to remove, and be offered the option to repair?

maybe (you don't indicate if McAfee is running)-
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

    History - Not Being Saved

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your Internet Explorer History file working. Hope it is of some help:

    Open VirusScan console
    Select "Pick a task... "
Select "Change my VirusScan settings "
Select "Configure VShield background scanning "
Select "Customise your VShield settings "

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next to "ActiveX Controls ".

    ================================================================

    OR---

    Run regedit and navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|Main

and insure that Save_Session_History_On_Exit is marked YES and not NO. (I just checked mine, and it is set to NO by default).

    Also try slipping down to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|TypedURLs

and check the last ten URLs you visited. They should be listed there.

I do have McAfee virus scan running. I did go into it and uncheck the box that Barbara suggested. I'll let you know if this solved the problem. I am running windows xp. Thank you.

    What about Symantec (vs McAffee?)

    Hey all -

Was "searching" the site (newbie here but think it's great BBS!)

Anyway, I too am having IE 6.0.1 issues where as when I select my history tab (I live and die by this feature for work) 14 weeks pop up (and yes, it worked fine in the past, and my default is set to 999 days) - but only shows the days of the week - and when I select that, the wait icon appears - and nothing but a blank page???

Like the author of this thread, I'm an OEM guy, so called DEC, err Compaq, errr HP - and have tried everything... Even when I try to do a re-install - it errors out saying "latest version already loaded - Aborting Install" -

I saw the MS links about about uninstalling and re-installing IE - but my Q is - *IF* I choose to do this - I assume my 14 weeks of history will be wiped??? I have backed up IE.INF file (I was told this contains my history!?) So am I safe to try this now - or - Is it possible that Symantec is doing the same things with Active X that Mcaffee is??? If so, I'd rather try that first - but as you know, Nortons simplistic menus are not that detailed...

Kinda in a jam here - Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Boomer - Down AND under :)

IE History Stuff with XP & 2000

With Win 2000 (our companies std at work) and with XP (at home) that Start Menu button we've all been using for years to clear the frequently used docs list also now appears to clear the history. I haven't tested thouroughly, but I have from time to time seemed to loose IE history after clearing docs. Maybe one of you guru's know better, or can offer us an explanation.
