My daughter is running Win98 on a compaq. When she tries to download off the internet the box that normally shows the file transfer progress just blinks on and off. You have to ctrl-alt-del and end the file download task. I went to MS and installed service pack 1 but that wasn't any help. Any ideas?
    Thanks Bill

Maybe? If not, clean out your TIF, run an AV scan, run Ad-aware and run IE's Repair Tool.

EDIT: BTW - does this happen on all sites? Or only a particular site?

No, it happens on several different sites. She did have a virus but she cleaned it prior to telling me the system didn't act properly. I rescanned with Norton and it didn't find anything.

Using XP pro and IE 6.0 sp1 the same thing happens. Normal dialogue box comes up but no progress. Started after update. No ideas as of yet how to fix it but was interested to hear that it happened to other machines.

Ok so I don't pay attention well, but the same general phenomenon was what I was interested in. Noticed elsewhere on the site that people were having trouble downloading attachments in OE 6 with the sp1. Are they related?

I did empty the TIF and run the scan. I haven't gotten a chance to get back to her house to run ad-aware.
