I would like some feedback with a strange problem. I am currently using IE 5.5 SP1. I downloaded 5.5SP2 from the Windows Update site and it loaded automatically. From then on my CD Rom/DVD player quit working. Whenever I tried to play a CD I would get a BSD. I went back to IE 5.5 SP1 and everything works just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks

I'm not sure why this would happen, but you might check for any software/driver/firmware updates for your CDRW/DVD.

Just a thought. When you say you are unable to "play" a cd, do you mean an audio cd or a DVD movie? What program is trying to open and what is the text of the blue screen error message?

On Windows 95 you can access a CD without engaging autoplay by holding down the shift key while the CD is loading and I would guess that it is the same in other Windows versions. (By the way, what is your Windows version?)

If you can access the CD/DVD-Rom drive from Windows Explorer and see the contents of the CD then maybe the CD player software is not compatible with IE5.5Sp2 for some reason.

    IE5.5 sp2 problems

When I installed IE5.5 sp2, it did not keep me from using my DVD drive, but it would not let me access many of my bookmarked sites. I would get the standard message that the site was currently unavailable and to try again later. It would let me on to a few sites such as the microsoft windows update site. I could access these same sites using Netscape 4.79, however. So, I uninstalled IE5.5 sp2, which took me back to IE 4.0, and then I reinstalled 5.5 sp1, and all worked just fine. Has anyone experienced similar problems and does anyone know why? Using Win98, original, with most critical updates.

    Thanks,

    Marvin
