    Hi WelshJim

Checked out the web site you recommended. The versions and builds match with each check but I don't understand the 3283. When I click on help>about IE and look at the IE versions, it gives SP1;3283; then the q numbered updates that are installed. I've searched Microsoft and Google for a couple hours and haven't found anything relating to the "3283 ". If I'm missing numbers its because there are no more to list. 3283 is all there is.

    My version is 5.50.4522.1800

    Cipher strength is 128 bit

    Build number is 54522.1800

Update versions are listed as SP1;3283;q111111;q222222;etc.

I don't know if 3283 is a update or what. Can't find anything on it.

When I found shdocvw.dll and clicked on properties>version it gave a version of 5.50.4611.1300.

Somewhat different than what everything else lists but the site you recommended said that it was probably caused by a hotfix or patch. Don't know if I ever installed a hotfix or not but I have updates that were recommended by Windows Update.

Don't know if that is any cause for alarm or not, shouldn't think so, but just curious as to what the 3283 is.

    Thanks

Hi John: My version of IE is:

    Version 5.50.4807.2300IC
Update Versions SP2 followed by a bunch of Qxxxxxxx numbers that are the security and update patches. I think I have the most recent version and all updates. There is one of the Qxxxxxx updates numbered Q328389 which may?? be the "3283" you refer to.

It looks like you may be behind on the updates, specifically the SP2 update.

My shdocvw.dll Version is 5.50.4943.1600 created Oct. 16, 2003 which is around the last update of IE 5.5.

Might be worth looking into further updates if you have the courage to go that route!!!:D

    Hi JohnB

Actually I thought I had SP2. Didn't pay attention until I started checking the updates. Gonna upgrade this thing this morning. Thanks.

dopey--As you probably know MS no longer offers downloads of IE5.5 SP2. However you can get it here
    http://browsers.evolt.org/
At that site, scroll to Internet Explorer (Microsoft), click on it, and on the next page, click 32bit.
Now, once you have SP2 installed, I believe you can still access recent Critical Updates for it from the Windows Updates site.
    If not go here
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/default.asp
And for whatever it is worth here is the story on patch Q328389
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328389

    Hi again WelshJim

As a matter of fact I didn't know Microsoft stopped with the updates. I thought that happened in mid January but discovered that the free support ended in July 03. Oops on me.

Thanks for the link. Got Sp2 and most of the updates. Getting the rest of them today.

I assume that 328389 is the same as what showed in my IEsp1 as 3238. Don't know why it left off the 89 but......

Don't have the problem with sp2, everythings shows as it is suspose to.

Thanks again for the help. :)
