    Installed IE 5.5 SP2 over 5.5 SP1 and all I could connect to were Microsoft sites, such as Windows update. Kept getting messages that web sites were not available or could not read the site. Uninstalled and went to IE 5.5 SP1 and it works just fine again. Using Win98 with most updates. Has anyone had these problems with SP2? Do you think IE 6.0 would work better? Is there a way to download IE and then install rather than going thru windows update?

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    Marv

    I had a similar problem with IE 5.5 last year. I finally uninstalled and returned to IE5.1.

    You can download Internet Explorer from the following link;

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp

    If you want to download a version older than IE6 click on the previous Versions link on the left side of the page.

    As I recall from the last IE download I did, you actually download a small setup file, which you will then need to run, it in turn will download and install all of the files needed to set up a new version of IE on your computer.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Rod, thanks for the info. I selected minimum installation, and checked download for later installation and it wanted me to download the full program over 22 mb. I guess the only way to find out of newer versions work is to install them and see what happens. But, I do not want the whole package and I would like to install it myself.
