IE 5.5 not saving options

i use IE 5.5sp2..... i do NOT want to search from the address bar... when a site is not there, i just want the internal unable to connect message to come up, instead of going into msn search. i went to tools, internet options, advanced, and checked "do not search from address bar" (or whatever it really sez), and saved. but, the next time i entered a site that wasn't there, the stupid search page came up again. i checked, and the do not search box had gotten unchecked. i re-checked the box (circle, actually hehe) and saved again. same result the next ti,e.

so, i went to the options thru control paned, made the change, saved. guess what? it didn't stay checked again!

any ideas what's going on? i tried the internet explorer repair tool twice now.

 

You're hitting "apply ".....then "ok" ?
