How does one get the entire IE 5.5 SP2 installation files so that they could be put on a CD and then used to install on various computers. The only thing MS seems to "save to disk" is an installation program that then goes out over the internet and downloads IE 5.5. Of course this is quite slow over the dial-up connections that the target computers have.

If it is available on the MS site, then it sure is hard to find. Why does MS have to be so difficult?

    Thanks!

    Here's the trick.

You can download the setup files for internet explorer to your hard drive without having to immediately install it. This lets you save the files on your hard drive or cd or zip for later installation. In addition, you can also specify which operating systems you want to be able to install it on. here's how:

Go to the microsoft ie web site - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm - and click on the version of ie you want to download. They currently offer ie 6 and ie 5.5 sp2 and ie 5.01 sp2. Follow the instructions to download the setup file. When prompted, save that setup file to disk into a folder of your choice.

Once the file is downloaded, go to start / run and type in the following command exactly as shown, including the quotes. Of course you'll need to replace the path to the setup file with the path where it's located on your machine:

    For ie 5:
    "e:\Downloads\MSIE\ie5setup.exe" /c: "ie5wzd.exe /d /s:" "#E"

    For ie 6:
    "e:\Downloads\MSIE\ie6setup.exe" /c: "ie6wzd.exe /d /s:" "#E"

This will result in a special download window where you can specify where to download the setup files to, as well as what OS's to download the setup files for.

Even though you'll end up with one folder and one set of setup files, you can then use the same setup files for any OS that you specified.

Hi, I don't know what the situation is where you live but here(AUST) most ISP's have it on CD you also find it on the cover of computer mags like PC, the ISP will usually send it to you free ,it has there connecton details as well but you just need to browse to find IE6 or IE5.5.

Another way. When you run the setup file choose the custom install. You'll then be given the option to save it to your disk for installing later.

One other thing about custom install, you need to click on Advanced and then select download for setup later.
