    What identifying mark is printed on dual rank DIMMs?

    Hi,

    The codes printed on RAM modules are manufacturer specific. Each manufacturer has their own codes. To identify the module you generally need to source how the manufacturer codes them. If the module is a generic brand, information can be taken from information printed on the chip themselves, then the number of chips are added up to give you the total "size ".

    As you can see, I dabbled at identifying sticks at one stage, but gave up rather quickly :) Now I use the "try it and see" method. Unless you use high quality RAM that should be compatible with most motherboards, you run the risk of incompatibility problems that can result in all sorts of "quirks" (runs fine, strange problems or does not work at all).
