This year I exchanged my Win98SE computer for a new WINXP Pro with 1 GB ram.

I do have many icons (50) on my desktop and recently I experienced when restarting my PC that the icons were a little slow in reforming themselves. Its not a problem but a nuisance.

I then got to remember a good piece of advise from ZEPHYR back in 2002 when I was running WIN98 and ZEPHYR suggested to install a small programme called IconCache, which places a menu on IE > Tools > Folder Options > View > that will allow you to select a suitable size.

This utility I have not been able to find anywhere.

Does anybody know about it or a substitute or another solution? :)

Yes, it is it, but instead of mingling with the registry I should like to know, if there is a utility, which you could install?

Hi PeteC. The reference page does not exist anymore. It was the same reference file ZEPHYR referred to back in 2002. Maybe no new utility has been developed for XP?

No problem - the iconcache.zip file is attached below - I use it myself.

It may download as a .php file, in which case change the file extension to zip.

Hi PeteC. Thanks. Just to be sure, does it also work on XP and do you know, why it was removed from its original site?

Yes - it works on XP. I have it installed on 3 x XP computers - a setting of 4096 works for me.

I have no idea why the link is dead.
I should have said 'merge' not install :(
