Icon backgrounds with active desktop - how to change?

    I know that when you put an active desktop icon on to your desktop, it gives all your desktop icons a solid background color, making it look terrible against whatever your wallpaper may be.

    Is there a way to have an active desktop but keep the transparent icons like normal?

    And "Use drop shadows under icon labels" is unchecked in System Properties, Advanced, Performance -- Settings, Vistual Effects?

    Check the "use drop shadows for icon lables ".

    Is the system uchecking that box on a reboot?
