Hopefully this is simpler than before:

I tried to partition my HDD using Partition Logic, but ******* up.

When I try to boot windows, I get the HAL.DLL error

in recovery console, access is denied to C:\Windows\

It only finds a windows installation at C:\$Windows.~BT\Windows

    Any suggestions?

leave the current file system intact (no changes)

    Quick question..
If I choose "leave the current file system intact (no changes)" when Installing windows, will all my files still be there?

The current file system refers to the format of the drive - FAT32 or NTFS - basically you are being asked if you want to stay with FAT32 rather than convert to NTFS.

It would help to know what you are doing in terms of an install before answering your basic question.

An upgrade of XP from, say Win 98, a reinstall of XP or ??

Crazydog - Welcome to the Board :)

Having just read and responded to your other thread I think it best to merge the two - otherwise it will get very confusing, for you and for those trying to help.
