I put a floppy disk in my floppy disk drive and clicked on My Computer, but there was no A drive. Apparently I lost the A drive. How can I retrieve my A drive. Thank you. abm

From memory - I do not have a computer with a floppy drive - Device Manager and uninstall the floppy drive and floppy controller - reboot.

Also check to make sure the cables are securely plugged into the back of the drive. Both the data and power cables. You will have to open the computer to do this.

Another thing, go into your BIOS and make sure the settings for the floppy drive are selected.

Floppy drives get very little use nowadays, and end up acting as an air vent. I would recommend using a can of compressed air to blow out any dust that has built up.

Very good advice. I learned that the hard way when I jumped the gun and replaced my floppy drive with a new one. Then I did a destructive investigation to see what I could learn. I always do that to things I'm going to throw away. I found that there was an inordinate amount of lint fuzz on the pickup head and that could have been the only reason it didn't work. Too late for me but perhaps it'll help someone else.
