Greeting, well yes I do know somethings about computers, I do know my lifes work is on the one I am typing from right this moment. I am desperate for some help, could someone help out a hog farmer in Iowa??

    I have win 98
    I have norton antivirus
    It expired last month
My Norton antivirus, just flashed "TROJAN HORSE "
I went through the steps and it wouldn't delete
I got nervous, so I downloaded Norton AV 2005, then it wouldn't install until I deleted 02. Scared to do that, I did anyway, and I got Norton AV 05 installed. It did do a pre install scan and said it was clean? Did I accidently fix a serious issue.

Before deleting 02, I was in the control screne, and deleted about four files that said they were Trojan horses? One was a spider???? The one that hit my computer tonite, said "jar jar ". Does that mean anything to anyone??
Have I successfully chased the bear out of the woods, or is the bear still crapping in them?????

I really would appreciate some honest help, I have a lot on this computer, and I am pretty nervous????

IowaFarmer - Welcome to the Board :)

Like your style - I guess you chased the bear out of the woods :D

Upgrading from Norton 2002 to 2005 has given you more tools in the armoury and, as the prescan came up clean, you should have no problems.

As a check - and to ease your mind would you download and run the trial version of Ewido. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu ". Run Ewido, save the report and post it here (select all the contents of the report text file, copy it and paste in a post here).

Then as a double check run an online virus scan at Housecall - accessible through Quicklinks in my signature and report back on anything it finds.

The one that hit my computer tonite, said "jar jar ".
A JAR file is much like a ZIP file, but does it a different way. When your Sun Java Virtual Machine (Control Panel\Java) is running, it caches data into JAR files, bad or good data. While your machine may not be actually doing anything with these, your Norton is detecting the creation of them.
How to clean these out: Go to Control Panel\Java, then click on Delete Files.
It would be a good idea to update your Sun Java to get rid of any vulnerabilities present. The current version is 1.50_06.
