I have an Epson X300 wireless printer, a desktop and laptop. I print via the wireless connection from both machines

Both computers are running Win 7 Pro. The desktop never looses the connection to the printer (even after a restart) but whenever I restart the laptop (after being shut down normally) I lose my connection because the port is changed.

Anyone have insight into why this happens?

    Thanks

Network printer ports don't change. When a network printer is installed it will be assigned a standard TCP/IP port for printers, usually port 9100.

It's possible that the printer IP address changes if it's set to use DHCP (dynamically assigned address from the router).

To avoid issues with network printers they should be assigned a static IP address.

    1. remove the printer from both computers: control panel > devices & printers > rt click printer > remove device.
    2. use the printer's menu to set it with a static IP address. If your router uses 192.168.1.x scheme, set the printer with 192.168.1.250.
    3. add the printer to each computer.

    Hi Tony - I'm confused

    #2 - where is the printer's menu?

I have a DLink Router - would I not have to setup a static IP in there first?

    Thanks

Isn't there a menu on the front or top of the printer itself? There should be. You should be able to manually setup the networking in it to:
    IP: 192,168.x.x
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.x.x (same IP as router)
