The first problem I have has to do with my Saitek joystick programming software. I've had the stick about 2 months and I've never tried to use the software before today only to find out that apparently Vista doesn't like it. I went to the Saitek forum and apparently this is a known issue and they have some new beta software that I want to try.

Herein lies the problem. I cannot get rid of the Saitek folder on my harddrive. Everytime I try to delete it, it says I need permission. I've tried with UAC on and off and my account is an admin account. I even tried with the hidden Administrator account after reading another post on this forum. Everytime I am told I don't have permission (there are a few more dialogue boxes preceding that with UAC on). I can't use the uninstaller program because that also doesn't work (also a known issue at Saitek). Saitek has listed on their forum what registry keys need to be removed for a manual uninstall which I did but without being able to delete this folder, it keeps starting up at boot up. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

My 2nd problem I believe is video driver related. About a month ago, I noticed Vista would no longer shutdown or reboot properly most of the time. It exits windows and goes to the black screen like normal and powers down the USB devices but at that point instead of powering down or restarting, it just sits there idling and is still sending a signal to the monitor so it won't go into standby mode. The only way to turn it off is manually holding down the power button for 4 seconds. Now if I leave the system alone, after a long period of time (10+ minutes) it will usually reboot itself. When it does this, I've gotten an error message about a catastrophic video driver error it's recovering from. I have updated the driver again since then but it still behaves the same. I have noticed no other video related issues with it.

    My system:

    2.4GHZ Core2Duo
Asus Striker Extreme mobo (using onboard sound)
    EVGA Nvidia 8800GTX
    4GB Corsair XMS PC6400 RAM
2x250GB Toshiba SATA2 HDs running in RAID 0 (OS is on a separate partition)
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 32 bit

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Osprey39. I am running Windows Vista and I have had a few issues with permissions and trying to delete stubborn files as well. The only way to delete some of those stubborn files or folders is to take ownership of them. :)

    Try this:

    1. Right click on the selected folder then go to properties
    2. Click the security tab
    3. Click advanced
    4. Click the owner tab
    5. Click edit
    6. Highlight your user name and check the replace owner on subcontainers and objects checkbox, click apply then ok. Then press ok on all of the other windows to exit out of them.

Once thats done see if you can delete the Saitek folder.

Just in case, if taking ownership of the Saitek folder doesn't work access safemode by pressing F8 on bootup then select safe mode from the menu that appears, log onto your account then delete the Saitek folder.

Since you have already logged onto the Administrator account and you can't delete the folder, thats because its being used by the operating system therefore you have to take owndership of that folder to give yourself full Administrator rights to be able to delete it.

Now about you graphics card driver. Access Safe Mode as I desscribed above and try shutting down your computer. Does the computer still hang at shutdown? Also take a look in Device manager. Are there any warnings or ??? by any of the devices. If so try disabling them and then shutting down the computer. Let me know if my suggesstions helped, thanks. Good Luck.
