I learned something NEW ( to me anyway ) about SpyBot Search and Destory yesterday.

I ran it on a 98SE machine that the Nieces and Nephews use. ( the only one )I had not run it in awhile. ( careless of me )

But when I did run it, it found some things and deleted SOME. But then it came up with the message " Can't delete ABC, DEF, GHI because of being in use. Do you want to run SB&D at Startup ? "

Of course I said YES !. Well it did run IN DOS. It did find THREE ( 3 ) things and cleaned them out BEFORE going the rest of the way into Windows.

I have 3 machines and a Printer on the LAN but NOTHING set as SHARED.

Question. ( I think I know the answer but will ask anyway. )

If I did have anything set as SHARED I believe that would provided a way for these nasty things to travel between machines.

    Ps

After I did get through with SB&D I of course ran other things.

But when I got all Done I DELETED ALL of the RB00x.cab files and let Windows make a new one.

If this had happend on XP I would have done the same with the Restore Points.

Am I wrong in either case ?

    Hi BB,

By now you prabably know how I think about RP's :)

What I would have done was to clean, then create an RP which I know was clean and rely on that. Always possible that something may come much worse than the problem that made you get rid of the RP's. This particular problem is real easy to deal with, if something worse comes along and you have to use an RP and this small problem returns, so what?

Later, either let that particular RP cycle off, or if it makes you feel better, blow them out.

    Regards - Charles

    Thank you charlesvar

You do make a very good point with which I do agree.

And actually the RB00x.cab files in 98 will cycle also once they reach ( I think 5 ).

Oh BTW. There has been a couple of times that repairs made thing worse and had I to go back.
