Sometimes when I am at a website, I.E. says it has to close because of an error.

    AppName iexplore
    Appv 6.0.2900.2180
    Modver 0.0.0.0
    Offset 61eb77e0

Should I be trying to repair I.E? If so how do I do that?
    Run scandisk?

You could try a repair, but the way of doing this depends on the OS you are running. Which OS are you running - 98, Me, XP SP1 or XP 2 or ?

This is Microsoft's take on How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP As I see it their suggested method for XP SP2 is problematical if SP2 was included in the OS installation CD. In this case there is no means of removing SP2 in order to reinstall it and an 'over the top install of SP2' will not work AFAIK.

Although not specifically recommended for SP2 to fix IE errors I would run System File Checker - it will do no harm whatsoever ....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow and note the space before the forward slash. Have your XP CD handy - more than likely you will be asked for it and may have to hit the retry button many times :) SFC will run and exit with no closing dialogue. To see which files, if any were replaced look in Event Viewer > System.

Usual cause of such IE errors is spyware or virus infection. Before attempting any repair or scandisk, download a few antispyware programs mentiioned below and see if have an infection or 3. If need assistance with them post in the spyware removal forum & we'll gladly help to get things back to good working order for you.

Pete I ran sfc. No problems noted in event viewer.

Tony I have Spyware Blaster running. I use Ad Aware and Spybot, Hijack This and CWshredder,Windows Defender, NAV 2006, Sygate firewall. No alarm bells going off.

Today I have not seen the message about having to close I.E. So, I will just wait and see. It may just have been a 2 day hiccup.

    Thanks
