Following instructions on YouTube and using their link, I downloaded IE 8. It seemed like a foreign language and there was no History button nor start page. This made the program completely unusable. Could this have been the fault of YouTube link? Or is this nornmal for this version.

    Anyone's thoughts appreciated.

    I'm presently using IE 6.

Why did you get it from YTUBE? Just go straight to MS and get it. You don't know what you are getting from those links on UTUBE and other sites.

I got it from You Tube because it was convenient and I was on their site anyway.

    Your point well taken.

OK, I have downloaded IE 8. Where is the History button. How do you access history folder?

Click on Favourites and the Favorites panel appears - can be pinned to the left side of the screen. Three tabs - Favourites, Feeds, History.

    Or ....

Right click on a blank area to the left of the Home icon and check Menu bar - View > Explorer Bars - History

To the right of the Address bar - two opposing circular arrows.

Finally figured out what was wrong with you... lol :D
My youngest son is a lefty except when it comes to batting a baseball/softball. Bats right handed but does all his throwing left handed.

IE8 is a POS. I "upgraded" from IE7 and had nothing but trouble. Shut-downs every few minutes because "Windows has encountered a problem ", missing features and goodness knows what else.

In an earlier post, I explained how MS thinks going back to IE7 is a "downgrade" and you have to go through some extra motions to get it. You also have to prevent automatic updates from installing it.

There was another IE8 post about that.

Check out the options in your security software - cookies may be blocked there.

Also check in Tools > Internet Options - General - Browsing History > Settings > View Files if any cookies are showing up.
