I just re-installed microsoft Office, and it changed my default e-mailer from outlook express to microsoft outlook! I DO NOT want that as my default, but i cant make it go back to outlook express. There is a window under tools that says "make this my default e-mailer, and when i click it, it changes, but immediately goes back to regular outlook HOW CAN I FIX THIS????

At the risk of pushing my luck........ you're using the tools button from your web browser.......not from Outlook Express......correct?

no, when i try using the scheme you proposed, the ONLY option there is microsoft outlook, NOT outlook express. When i use the options in outlook express it SAYS it is now the default, but goes back to outlook express immediately

The instructions in the Outlook express HELP SAYS,
"To use Outlook Express from your Web browser

You can set Outlook Express to be your default e-mail program, so that whenever you click an e-mail link on a Web page or choose the e-mail command in your Web browser or newsreader, Outlook Express opens.

Likewise, you can set Outlook Express to be your default newsreader, so that when you click a newsgroup link on a Web page or choose the newsreader command in your Web browser, Outlook Express opens.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
In the Default Messaging Programs area, click Make Default for news or e-mail.

THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME! WHEN I FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, IT SAYS IT IS CHANGED, BUT IOT DOESNT! WHEN I OPEN IT AGAIN, IT ONCE AGAIN SAYS IT IS NOT THE DEFAULT!

Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools, Internet Options, and then on the Programs Tab. Make sure OE is set as the default program for E-Mail and Newsgroups.

    Try this:

Close IE and/or OE, click Start| Run and enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

    Reboot.

From within InternetExplorer's menubar select Tools>internet options>programs tab> and on the line email does it say "Outlook Express" or have this as choice in the dropdrown [accessible by arrow on the right]? If not make it so. "Same for newsgroups ". Or sometimes to make these changes stick you have to use the IE icon from within the control panel. This may be one of those occassions.

Make sure the line at the bottom is checked for IE to check to make sure it is the default browser.

Then open OutlookExpress and click Tools>Options, and at the bottom of the General tab, verify that OE is set as the default. If it is, the "Make Default" button will be grayed out. If not, click the button and try again. May need to click apply and then okay.

    May need to reboot?

    Your welcome?

I have a feeling since this may be a merged crosspost that I may have missed something here. Hope IE/OE is now your defaults and all is well.
