Hi I am new to this, not to mention confused about all computer lingo so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong area or asking a question that has already been answered somewhere on here. But I did search first.
My problem is that my computer suddenly froze one day, so I had to "power boot" I think. When I turned it back on I was brought to a screen that I now know as the general OS menu I believe.(Last known good configuration, safe mode, start normally, networking, etc...). Regardless of which one of the options I choose, it acts like it is going to start but then the screen goes blank and the whole cpu is rebooted. I have learned that if I use F8 I am brought to the advanced OS menu, which has the option of debugging mode. This is the only option that will start my windows. I have an IBM thinkcentre I believe; as I am sure everyone is aware it is an older basic cpu at best. I bought it from someone for $50 and didn't receive any software with it. I have no restore disc or any operating system software. I contacted both Levono and microsoft but they will not assist me since it is not on warranty. Outside of buying a new cpu/OS/any hardware, is there anything I can do?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Without an XP installation CD your options are limited ......

Check out the hard drive with the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software - DOS version .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

As you have an IBM computer you should go to the Hitachi/IBM link to download the software which will need to be burnt to create a bootable CD - instructions should be given.

If the drive gets a clean bill of health probably your only other option is to borrow a retail XP installation CD of the same Service Pack level as that installed on your computer and attempt a repair install using your own key which should be on a label on the computer case.
