I went to one of the pages, here, and wanted to save this page. I tried "save as" but every time, at the end, I get a window that says I cant save the page. Does anybody know why? I can only save it as a text. It happened to me few times before. It is so frustrating. Is there anybody who can tell me how to beat this problem? Thanks

Must be something with the page, running win98 here, and get the same error.

Same here. I'm unable to save it as a web page. I use Surfsaver for saving web pages though and it has no problem at all grabbing the page. I've seen this before and when IE can't save it, Surfsaver always seems to be able to. Don't know why this is. Perhaps there's code in the page that doesn't allow it to be saved and Surfsaver gets around it by reporting itself to the website as a browser. Just a guess.

    A workaround:
    Control a (select all)
    Control c (copy)
    open Word or Open Office
    Control v (paste)

or get a free pdf writer from pdf 995 or pdf fineprint

Using Mozilla 1.6. Able to save page (complete) no problem. Checked the source code relating to CSS and found this:
Looks like my browser was able to download the CSS file from here http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/service.css
    Good on ya, Mozilla. :D

Okay, I need a lesson in cascading files. I can't get the page to save as usual, either. When I clicked on the fixer file, I got a code that opened in front page, not a download. I usually make Adobe Acrobat pdfs of stuff like this- seldom "save as ", so I never ran into a page that wouldn't save. I don't understand why the css format was used, nor how I teach IE to open it. All I can think of are workarounds. Anybody care to explain this to me in plain English? TIA

If you have Internet Explorer 6 SP1, security updates block access to stylesheet code coming from servers other than the one you are visiting. A solution is to contact the webmaster and ask if the style sheet can be moved to a site within the domain (if it is possible).

    El Camino:
When saving, instead of using the default file type, scroll down to "Web Page, HTML only ". This will save the text of that page without attempting to save the style sheet.

    leeleeleelee:
Ordinarily, I'd agree. But in this case, this results from a security vulnerability that now has been repaired in IE but still exists in Mozilla :( .

    Johanna:
What "fixer file" are you referring to?

IE is able to download the CSS file when it is rendering the page, so why can it not download when saving the page? I think it is more a glitch than a security concern.

that worked perfectly for me. The link from Arie and 4Lees opens a bunch of gobbletygook in FrontPage:confused:

Oh, well, I love learning here! I now know that .css files should be saved as HTML only from the drop down menu, and that my IE is
    'doing its job "!! Thanks!

sticking to her Adobe Acrobat pdf writer- doggone it, as much as I PAID for it, I'm gonna USE it!

My IE6SP1 wouldn't save it either, but Mozilla had no problems.

That's a very good point, of course. I don't know what the specific security issue involved is. At first I thought that it was a matter of no .css files being saved to disk, but my IE cache is full of them.

    Johanna:
That "link" was not intended to be "opened ". They were just pointing out the location of the style sheet as viewed from the Symantec web page in question.
