i am having a very interesting time with the mouse on my 2k computer, its all over the screen! sometimes i cant find it.
i dont think its a virus, got microsoft anti-spy and live safety center and they havent caught anything. adaware and spybot are clean.
i check hard drive its a little less than half full. device manager says it is working properly. but it is not.
    anyone got any ideas?
the action of the mouse pointer is shaking, trembling, disappearing right now its is this box in the I shape.

Have you tried the adjustments in the mouse heading in the control panel?

sparrow thanks for answering so fast. read your reply and i went to mouse in contriol panel and really didnt know what to change. i use one click mainly because i cannot double click its like morse code.

what i did do was scan disk and defrag him. and the mouse seems not as jumpy as before so maybe albert is like hal and gets a nervous pointer when he needs cleaning.

if you could tell me what to check on mouse i will see what set on what and report back. i checked the mouse and under pointers in speed it is set half way on scale, and under acceleration, low is checked. it is handle a lot better but its not precision pointing.

In control panel > mouse go to the middle (pointer options) tab and you'll see a slider labeled 'select pointer speed'. Play with it and you should find a setting you like. You can try anything else you see there, too. Wont hurt. You can always set it back.

sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. i played around with the mouse slider but it wasnt doing the trick,so i changed mouse(mice) and works better (for how long i dont know) the first mouse was an optical and is there any kind of cleaning that they need? i really prefer it to the ball type:)

Optical mice don't like white/light colored desks/surfaces. I actually use a dark blue mouse pad with mine since my desk is a white whiteboard material.

My optical mouse will act that way every once in a while. For me it's always just been a piece of lint or maybe a hair or something similar on the eye of the mouse. Tip it over and blow on it to get rid of whatever it is and it's working fine again. ;)
