    Hello,
Very strange, from one of my PC's (Win ME IE6 SP1), when I'm trying to go to: http://messenger.msn.com/ or http://65.54.195.253/ , I receive this error message:
HTTP 500 - Internal server error
    Internet Explorer

All other URL's open without any problem within this PC !!

The two other PC's (Win98 IE6 SP1 & Wi ME IE5.5 SP2) are able to go to all URL's inclusive http://messenger.msn.com/ without any problem !!

I've tried to clear: the Internet temporary files, the cokies, tried without :NAV, ZA, and other startup programs, etc.. without success !!
Also I didn't find anything relevant in the MS KB ??

Can someone help me, please ?

    Andre

    Hi hpwamr
You might want to take a look in your hosts file?
Do a file search on your computer for a file called "hosts" (not hosts.sam that's just a sample file)... if you find one open it with notepad and delete any reference to drudgereport.com (just the line of text).

To open with notepad hilite the file, right click while pressing the shift key and select "open with "... then choose notepad from the window that opens. Do not check the "always open with" option.

    Under C:\Windows
    Not the hosts.sam one
Make sure you got to details view to see the difference.
Sinply go to Start.....search.....for files or folders......
Under the search for files or folders....type in hosts
Make sure the Look In: is pointed to your hard drive
Once it's found......go up to view....then details...so you can tell which hosts file you're after.

    Again:
Look for a file called HOSTS (and only HOSTS, not HOSTS.SAM) in your C:\Windows directory. If it exists, rename it to something else (eg HOSTS.OLD) and try again.

    Hello Daizy,

    Thanks for your answer.

I've checked my "HOSTS" file (not hosts.sam) and there are nothing in my host file (blank) !!

Maybe, I've have to put "127.0.0.1 localhost"
    I'll try it ?

No chance you change your security settings accidently? How about adding it to your trusted sites? How about doing an Internet Explorer repair through add/remove?

And that leaves me totally tapped for ideas. :(

Well, I've tried with ALL security settings to LOW; Also I've put "http://messenger.msn.com" in "Trusted sites ". No change !!

What I can do is re-install IE6SP1 or eventually downgraded IE6SP1 to IE5.SP2.

I'm out of ideas; all MS KB's about HTPP 500 error are related to IIS !!

    Unbelievable It's solved !!

I was desperate to find a solution. After 2 weeks of try and test, I gave up and I was ready to ready to re-install !!

Yesterday, I've downloaded "unbrand.vbs" because I've manually deleted in registry some IE keys to Unbranding my IE.
I ran unbrand.vbs and with success and also chgietitle.vbs to reset my IE defaultd value.

And wonderful !! , "http://messenger.msn.com/" browse without problem anymore !!!

    Very strange !!
