    Hello,

I don't know much about HTML coding, but if I do insert a code in an email (Outlook Express 6.0), it comes back as the same code, instead of the object of the code. I have "rich text formating" checked, I have HTML checked in "send." To give you an example, I put this HTML code in an email and sent it to myself:

    <a href= "mailto:membername-here@geocities.com ">Email Roxanne</a>

Instead of getting "Email Roxanne" in the sent email, I get the exact same coding as sent. Can someone explain what I am doing wrong, or if I have a problem with a certain type of file used for this. I have checked out the posts, and don't quite understand what the problem is. For the sake of stupidity, if my email address is greg56@yahoo.com, could someone tell me the correct coding to put in the above example? Maybe I didn't enter it right.

    Hi Daisy,

No, I didn't try it previously, but just did. When I clicked on the button to "preview ", which I assume means to preview the HTML source code, it just showed the same HTML code, no change. Is that what you were referring to?

    thanks for any suggestions

To create a link as you described, first type the word or words that you want to appear for the link, then highlight it and then click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like a globe with a chain link on it. Type in the address and that should do it for you. Never have been able to figure out why you can't just type in the code. Guess it's because that's the way Microsoft wants it. :)

    Hi Zander,

I do not have an icon like the one you described in my Outlook Express 6 toolbar.

In a message window click insert and then hyperlink (having highlighted the relevant text).

Brett's way should work too. To view the toolbar I'm speaking of, while in a message composition window, click on the view menu then toolbars and then on formatting bar.

    Hi again Bentley
Sorry for the confusion. I meant for you to compose your message as normal....then go up to view.....then edit source. You should now have 3 tabs at the bottom of your email. Use the source one to edit your email address.

    Hi Daisy,

Yes, that worked fine. Thank you very much. So you cannot just put HTML coding in the message of an email to get it to work?

    Hi Brett,

When I used the hyperlink function, this is what I got:
<a href= "mailto:membername-here@geocities.com ">Email Roxanne</a> ( I might add that from mail and including Email, the text was in a different color and was underlined. ) When I sent it, it still looked the same. Should I have highlighted just certain text? As I highlighted the whole thing.

    Hi Zander,

I tried as you suggested and nothing. My email sent was opened with same HTML code. I don't understand why this wouldn't work.

I appreciate all the help. As this is confusing for me.

    Hi Bently
Brett's way WILL work. Compose your message as normal. Where you have the words, let's say, "Email Me" on the page......highlight those words...........go up to insert...then hyperlink. You'll get a dialogue box.......use the drop down arrow on the top....and choose mailto: for Type. For URL....... beside the mailto: type your email address.

    Hi Daisy,

Yes, that did work that way. I thank all of you very much for posting, as I tried and tried to get this to work and couldn't figure it out- I think they call that D-U-M-B.

Anyway, if you guys and gals have the time, could anyone tell me the best way to send an image via email in a thumbnail view, with the option to click to enlarge. I have been working on this too, and this is what I have come up with. (See below - I must be doing something wrong with the font HTML code, as it does not work). Seems to work OK for one image, but for more that one would be hard. Is there an easier way to do this? I guess I was just trying to find a better method of sending out photos without taking up so many bytes.

    <font color= "red "><CLICK HERE></font> --------Will not work

Seems like a major pain. Short of making your own web pages and loading them up on the free ISP space that most providers give their customers......why not just zip them?

    Daizy

    *edit*
Ok.....had a brain fart there. Apparently you do have your pictures up. Why not just send the link to the picture?

In order to do it the way you want you'd have to send both pictures. I took a look at your pictures and the only way I can think of to do it is to store the larger pictures on the web someplace and then send the email with the thumbnails and link them to wherever the larger ones are stored. You do this the same way you use words for the link. Highlight the picture in the email, click insert\hyperlink. Not exactly what you want but it works and you get by just sending the thumbnail.

    Hi Zander,

Thanks for the reply, as I believe I understand what you are saying. If you don't mind, I will give it a try and see if I can get it to work. Both pictures on stored on the web, but I am not sure of using the hyperlink. We'll see and I will get back with you if I don't catch on.

    Thanks again,

    Zander,

Yes, that worked fine. Now if I want the email to say "Click Here to Enlarge" under the thumbnail, How would I do that? Rather than the link showing alongside the thumbnail.

    thanks for suggestions.;)

You might want to keep the small ones on your hard drive. It will work if you point it to the location on the web where the smaller one is stored but OE will want to connect to the web in order to insert the picture in the email (kind of a pain if you happen to be on dialup and aren't connected at the time). If you choose to keep it on your hard drive, while composing the message click on insert\picture and browse to where you have it stored. Otherwise just type in the web address where it is stored. Either way, once the pic is in the email, highlight it just as you would text. Then do the insert hyperlink routine and put in the address of the larger one.

To do what you want just type the text (click here to enlarge) under the picture and then create the hyperlink using the text. While the text is highlighted, depending on the size of the font you're using by default, you might want to change the font size so that all the text fits under the picture. Using the thumbnail you've posted, size 8 (10's not to bad) seems to be about right. Guess that'll be up to you. We must have been posting at the same time with our last posts. That's why my previous post didn't give you the answer you were looking for in your last post. :)
