HP photosmart essential 3.5 software came with camera. The site is frozen, cannot get into it at all. Talking to HP they say that because the warranty of my digital camera has expired, so has the software. They (in India) offered to get me in touch with a higher authority for US $59.95 who would talk to me about it.

In the meantime, I can access the opening page of HP photosmart essential by a number of means but the result is the same - frozen out of the photos. I want to get in there and move the pictures to another site which will allow me to edit, share, etc. Is that possible?

Is the camera a HP brand?

What is the address of the site?

I don't know HP Photosmart Essential, but I don't think there should be be any way of holding you to ransom for your own photos. The photos added before any expiry date should belong to you and you should have unrestricted access to them.

The Helpdesk will start pressing you for money as soon as they hear that the product has run out of warranty.

Try contacting them through their website Support service.

Ask to talk to a supervisor if you seem to be getting "spiel ".

Yes, the camera is an HP. The address of the site is HP photosmart essential 3.5 and can be found on the main Hewlett-Packard site. I did go to their support services, some of them are frozen also, but finally did get a phone number - the one in India.

I haven't tried it this morning yet but a techie should be here later today, I'll want to move everything out of there no matter what and get the camera reconfigured to post photos elsewhere. Yes, I was getting the runaround from India! Thanks for your help.

later: Techie managed to delete the site - took a while - and reinstalled the free photosmart essential 3.5. Nothing on the site to indicate it would disappear with the camera warranty. The "experts" in India were 'way off track, maybe they got a commission on that proposed charge of $59.95. Problem solved. Thanks.
