I have an HP Scanjet 3300C that doesn't want to scan. I am running Windows ME so downloaded the driver for Windows ME from HP. I have 256 MB RAM and a USB connection on my scanner. When I attemp to scan, It goes through the motions, telling me it is scanning, but never does get a scanned image on the scan window. In my Control panel/System/Device it says the scanner is working fine.

I have had some fun with this model scanner before.Does the copy feature work? With windows 98 you need to have "still Image Mon" loaded for it to work, In 98 MSconfig. Not sure about ME (an operating system I have ignored). If you go to device manager and delete the scanner then reboot and let windows reload the drivers does it work then? HP has a site where various issues for this model are discussed ,such as a compatibility problem with via chips. Check to see if it's installed on the usb root hub, It doesn'like this . Hp's site has some downloads that you may need apart from their drivers, which by the way are around 54 mb(check to see you have downloaded the full driver set)

If it's like my printer, that 54MB is the full software for it too. Including the drivers.

I downloaded what I thought was just drivers for my HP printer, & when I installed it, I suddenly had two printers listed. I had to uninstall both & edit the registry & then re-installed the downloaded files. All was fine after that, so you may want to un-install the scanner & edit the registry before downloading & installing the scanner "drivers,' which will likely be the full scanner software if it's that big of a file.

Thanks jenae and Deloris but I have tried reinstalling, removing the scanner, downloading new drivers, and nothing seems to work. It says it is scanning but doesn't go any further. The computer will freeze if left trying to scan. When I Control/Alt/Delete it says scanner not responding.

    rogi,

You and I are almost in the same boat. I have a Scanjet 3200C & it scans, but there are big yellow streaks all over everything. I've tried everything I know to get it to stop doing that. Cleaning it's mirrors worked for awhile. Then it started it again about a month later.

Try cleaning it's mirrors. It has several of them up inside the part where you lay the paper. You'll have to take it apart, but be careful, you could break some wires & stuff. That just might work for yours. At least for awhile. Don't use any kind of cleaner, or alcohol. Just a plain soft damp cloth. Make sure all lint is removed that the cloth left behind.

Sorry that you are still having problems. This model scanner was made to work on win98. Deloris is correct the file size is 54 mb however as HP refer to it as software /driver I thought I would not complicate matters , as you need the whole file to update the scanner for your OS. You are advised to do a clean install of the product , not much problem anyway of having two scanners as the file should overwrite whatever is there. You can look at the link for more information about the product from HP.One other thing an update CD from HP is available (you have to purchase) for your OS. You may find it is better than the download (large file, data could be missing or corrupted)

    Scanner Problems

    Hi rogi & janae,

Thanks for that link, janae. It's a winner. :) Looks like you could glean a lot of information from it.

I, too, hope rogi has his scanner fixed. I never managed to get mine fixed. I tried the fixes on the HP site. None of them worked, and the aditional fix HP sent me didn't make a lick of sense, even though I'd already tried it on my own. LOL Hey, sometimes stupid sounding stuff works. :D

I got sick of messing with it after about two months of trying everthing I could think of, so I just went & bought another one & gave that one to the hubby, even though I couldn't really afford it. Told him, if he could get it working right, he now has a scanner. :D

When it comes to a big project, like scanning in old family photo's of ancestors & such to put on CD's for family members, you need a scanner that works right. Not one that put's a yellow tint over everything, and don't seem to want to be fixed. :(

    Hi jenae & Deloris

I tried everything anyone told me about fixing my scanner and the thing still won't work. I tried HP support but all their garble just came up with the same results. Thanks a lot for the time you took to try and help a poor scannerless individual. Maybe next time.:)

    rogi,

I am sorry to hear that you couldn't get it fixed.

I wish I could have come up with something else to try, but I was waging war with my own HP3200C. :D Hubby has inherited it now. Let him wage war.

Naw, it'd be my luck the darn thing would work perfect for him, just like the old printer I gave him. Contrary thing just hated me, but he installed it & Zappo, worked great. Go figure!

Did you disconnect the scanner before you reinstalled the software? HP scanner software must be installed before the scanner is connected.

Thanks for all the great help from everyone, but I got tired of fighting so I got myself a new scanner. My new HP4470C works just fine. Now if I could only find someone looking for a good used scanner..............
