I will be installing a HP LaserJet 1018 Printer (USB) over the holiday weekend. HP's web site has 3 install packages. The bloated 199.53 MB (no thanks).
    The 2 other choices are both 4.74MB - (Date 05-2007) (Version 20070518)
HP LaserJet Basic Plug and Play Driver
    and
    HP LaserJet Basic Print Driver.

For the smaller installs, is their any advantage / disadvantage of one install over the other?? Will be installed on kids HP/XP/sp2. Will probably share it to my XP just for grins and giggles.

    Hi Dennis,

HP LaserJet Basic Plug and Play Driver
    HP LaserJet Basic Print Driver
In your case I would use the "Basic Print Driver ". The Plug and Play driver stipulates that it will not assist in network connection. Be careful about "Do NOT attach a USB cable until prompted by the installation program. "

I take it that because the host computer has the basic drivers, when the client computer wants to install the drivers it can use those. The client computer could not use Plug and Play drivers because the device is running through the network, not using P'n'P detection.

    Matt
