    Hi,
It may be a matter of cleaning the drive rollers:

    Cleaning and maintenance:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...sId=29789&prodTypeId=18972&supportTaskId=2768

Check for any buildup of dust inside. It may be worth getting a can of compressed air, taking the printer outside and blowing the dust out.

Check for any buildup of toner.

Check through the User Guide/Manual. Sometimes they point out what to look for and where to look.

Have a look through the software/driver downloads. I see there is a "patch" for Win XP.

Print some self-test pages. If there are no noises it may be due to bad drivers or a communication problem to the computer (but I would think it was more likely to be drive rollers needing cleaning).

Yes z4u, it seems quite easy to clean or change the pickup roller. It would be something that you should check and clean occasionally.
I would clean it well first and see if the noise was reduced. If the noise was still there it may need a second cleaning or replacement.

Have a look on the drivers CD and also in the HP utilities program (Toolbox). There may be some information there as well about what parts to keep clean or inspect for wear.
