Have a HP laptop with XP Pro that recently had a HD failure and replaced the 100GB HD less than a month ago. The laptop is well used after about 2 years, but HD and adapter are new.
It shuts off in a matter of a few minutes at most. Message says "Resuming Windows" - as if hibernating or something. (?)
It often starts up with a rose colored tint. Then monitor turns off in a matter of a couple seconds. Can’t tell if computer shuts off too, because the monitor never comes back on.
Found that without AC adapter, it runs longer – but then when plugging the adapter in it shut off. Without the adapter, it eventually shuts off in a matter of minutes.
    I recently installed IE7.
    Any clues?

    Thanks.
    Charlie

Have you re-installed all the MoBo drivers - chipset, sound, video, USB, etc.?
