 Okay, I am completely rabid now!

Five hours ago I was asked by my wife to print out an e-mail sent by my son in Oregon for a friend of ours. He has long since gone home and I am left with a . . . mess.

I have a Gateway 850 Select running Win98SE and an HP Deskjet 820Cse printer. Suddenly the computer has decided to ignore the printer, or vice versa.

Several days ago, I downloaded and installed "H@rdcopy" as a screen capture utility. All was well and good and working fine (for three days) up until about 5 hours ago.

I have uninstalled "H@rdcopy" and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer with the supplied floppies 3 times now.

I am still getting the notice that the computer can not recognize the printer. I've tried all of the "troubleshooting" tips supplied by HP, both online and in the manual but to no avail.

I'm sure that I am missing something but I can't figure out what it is!

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! TIA !! :D

OBTW - Welcome HOME everyone !!

I got it to work finally !

The cat had gotten up there  and loosened a spring clip holding the cable tight to the printer. Loose connection = no recognition = no print.

The moral here - ban the animals from your computer room. Bad cat!
