Having a problem with my CD Writer.
When pressing the button on front of CD Driver it does not open. If I select Eject in properties the drive will open. When pushing on the drive slide it will not close automatically. If I close it by hand it will not read the disc. Tried deleting the driver and letting Windows find it. still doesn't work.
The drive shows up in my computer.
I have a program the came with my HP Computer called HP Record Now. Used to copy Cd's and things like that. This program will open the CD Drive and close the CD Drive and the light on front of the CD Drive will flash on and off as if it is looking for the disc. So that tells me the drive is not bad and is working. The drive is hooked up with a ribbon cable going straight to the motherboard. No other hardware is attached to the cable.
I used PC-Doctor to give me system information and it doesn't see it.
Any ideas on what to try?

Very much suspect that your drive has internal problems - front button not making contact somewhere - manual close of tray also.

Eject in properties and open/close in Record Now both send signals in through the back door - that side is clearly OK - it's an electromechanical problem on the front side.
    Device Manager?

    Cd/dvd

You hit it right on the head. Bad device. Was working when I took it from one computer and DOA when I put it the new computer. All of this in about thirty minutes. I guess you just never know. Thanks
