    Hello,
I had a lady drop off this almost new laptop she purchased new in August with an obviously busted LCD . I ordered the replacement, a 15.6" thin with LED back light and 30 pin connector. After installing it, Which by the way, I've done many, many times, the battery was dead and I didn't have her AC adapter. She brought it with her when she came to pick it up. Now it gets weird. I plugged into the wall, then the laptop. I had an orange light by the power jack. I pushed the button, but didn't hear anything. I held the button for a second or two, and heard a fan. So I'm waiting on the display, but it didn't come up. I did a hard reset. battery out, unplugged, I held the button for 30 seconds, plugged in the power. This time I pushed the button, the fan came on full speed, but still no display. I pressed the button to shut off and it didn't. I held it down and it wouldn't stop until I pulled the plug. After that, I had nothing. No charge light, fan or anything. It's dead. I never saw it run before replacing the screen, but the lady told me her son used two weeks after the LCD was broken until it spread.
What could have happened to it?

The Orange light by the A/C Adaptor only indicates that the battery is not fully charged. Did you make sure all the connections are connected properly.

I would try an external monitor to see if the computer itself is working.

When installing an LED back lit display, there's only the one 30 or 40 pin connector. I didn't have to disassemble the base of it.

Bill, As stated in my post, the board is dead.... absolutely nothing happens when I plug in the power, or push the power button. What do you reckon an external monitor would do?

Sorry. I guess I stopped reading when you said, "This time I pushed the button, the fan came on full speed, but still no display. "

Are you 100% sure the replacement panel is the correct one?

After carefully  reading everything you said this time, I don't see where you tried the notebook when it first came in to see what else might be wrong, other than the "obviously busted LCD ". Do you know if the computer was working before removing the busted LCD?

It sounds like something else was damaged during the fall and you may need to totally disassemble the notebook to look for other physical damage.

You just removed the screws from the front bezel. Then you removed the screws from the lid, the left, right masts and disconnected the DVI cable. Is that correct. Is the Power button lighting up or is everything dead. HP Notebook Product Number M4C52UA. Display Part Number 813959-001. Is this the screen HP P/N 813959-001 LED LCD Screen 15.6" eDP HD Display

I wish I had seen it work before swapping screens, but right now, I'm taking her word that her son was using it right up until she brought it to me.

Sorry. I should have re-read your first post more carefully. I just hope the son was being honest to the mother (and that he didn't try to fix it himself first). That said, it puts you in a bind that I don't see a way out of.

I think you still need to fully disassemble and see if there is any other visible damage inside.

Sounds like something may have fried on the system board or the power button board.

On this particular laptop, the only screws I had to remove were the 4 actually holding the LCD in place. The bezel snaps and it's not mounted to the right and left masts. The power button doesn't light up on this model. So far, the only LED I've seen is the one by the charge port. The screen I removed was an LTN156AT35-H as shown in attached pic. The replacement was recommended by ScreenAid on eBay. It can be seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400739763482?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I just found a C-Net review page and one of the guys commenting said his suddenly died after only 4 months. I've only changed the screen, I haven't been in the base, now I realize it's still under warranty, I'm not going to.

The warranty is probably void now after replacing the monitor (unless you are an authorized warranty service center). Worth giving them a call but I would not hold out much hope.

Unless they remove the screen and determine it wasn't installed at the factory, they'd never know any work was done on it. I'm convinced nothing I did caused it to fry. The only time I powered it up, it had the correct screen in it.

Okay, but that is not exactly being upfront and honest with tech support.

I am sure you are right. But typically, any repairs done by an unauthorized person, whether qualified or not, voids the warranty. This is why when something comes into my shop, or when helping others on these forums, if still under warranty, I tell them to contact warranty support.

Your call, but if me, I would tell them what has been done thus far.

That's the unfortunate part. I didn't know how new it was until the work was complete. I'm now finding a lot of unhappy people that bought this laptop for various reasons, including it just died. 31% of buyers on Amazon gave it one star.

I don't normally pay much attention to user reviews because many give bad reviews because FedEx dropped the box, or UPS delivered it to the next door neighbor, or it was the wrong color. But I do pay attention when many users are reporting the same problem. 31% is a lot. :(

Especially when only 39% gave it 5 stars.

Do you still have the old screen? Try reinstalling it and see what happens.
