I'm trying to get ICS working on this machine as a host. It connects successfully to the web via Telocity DSL on an Enet adapter. @nd physical Enet adapter goes to hub which connects to client machine.

Have Netbui defined on both LAN enet cards & the local lan works. When I chosee a specific address 192.168.0.1 (rater than auto address for the LAN TCP/IP I get a message indicating the CTP/IP address is already in use by another adapter. hidden form the NEtwork & Dail ........could be a ghost or legacy adapter.

Looking at the device driver list (with hidden devices displayed) I see about 10-12 that are not physically installed. Some have VPN as part of the description & hubby used to have a VPN to his office defined on this machine.

How do I get rid of these devices - uninstall gives error - may be needed to boot computer.

Do I need to get rid of the VPN code too.

What OS? It will make a difference in what you can get rid of and the best way to do the deed.

Found out what to do. Deleted VPN form the adapter then set up the Device manager to 'view hidden devices' then un-installeda whole lot of ghost devices...network devices & monitrs etc that had been previously configured on this machine.

Finally have only the 2 ENET Cards defined & configured.

Still can't get ICS to work.

Configured the DSL host Enet card with TCP/IP with auto obtain IPaddress & DNS server adress. & enable ICS on the share tab

LAN ENET on host configured with Client for MS File & Prt share NETBUI & TCP/IP 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 NO DNS addresses Wins has 'enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP' & 'enable LMHOSTS'

Client has ENET card configured with Client for MS File & Prt share NETBUI & TCP/IP auto obtain both IP address & NDS

    Client ipconfig result IP 169.254.91.199

IE setup on Tools/INET opiton/Connect/lan settings all 3 unchecked.

inconfig/renew on the client gave the error "DHCP server unreachable'

Both machines can sett the local network files. Host can browse the web. Client can not. opening IE gets 'page to available'

FWIW - SP3 is available now.

FWIW-2, I spent around $100 to put a router/switch in at home and it was money very well spent. No ICS to fiddle with. No need to run other protocols for the internal LAN. Speed internally is way up. Everything is automatic and WORKS!!!

I am now kicking myself for sticking with an ancient hub for so long.
