    I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I need to uninstall a Microsoft program, but when I go to the add/remove programs, I only see a portion of the programs installed. If I click on most recently used or another tab, I see different programs, but still only a certain number. I can't uninstall what I can't see! If anyone knows why this is happening, please help. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Gerry and welcome to the Board,

    What is the "MS program" you want to uninstall? Is it an MS Udate?

    At the top in the title bar in Add/Remove, is Show Updates checked?

    Regards - Charles

    I'm not using XP at the moment, but I think what you may be looking for is some text there that says something like "show all programs" or "show microsoft programs "

    Add/remove

    Charles -

    It's Activesync, and it doesn't matter whether I check show updates or not.

    Can I ask why you're trying to uninstall it? Have you, in the past, used the beta version of v4.5 and/or AS 4.2? Does it conflict with another application running? Finally, which PPC or Smartphone and which carrier do you use? I'll try my best to help you. ;)

    One rather hard way to get those programs to reappear is this::
    Find a file named: sysoc.inf. this file should be in the windows/inf directory.
    you will see entries like this:
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,hide,7
    this line is for pinball. find your program name that's not showing up in add/remove programs. and delete the "hide" option. and make it look like this:
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7
    make sure the two commas are present and only the word "hide" between them is gone. For your problem, you could limit the exercise by just making sure the Activesync entry is correct.

    The reason I;m trying to uninstall is so I can reinstall. It's not working right now, and I can't reinstall without uninstalling first. I just bought an HP 1950 and it was working fine then stopped synching properly. I tried to reinstall Active synch, but came accross this problem. Also, I can't restore to a previous time - System Restore keeps telling me it can't restore to a certain time, and I've tried all of them already.

    I tried the sysoc.inf trick, but ActiveSync is not listed there, nor any of theother programs I can't see in Add/Remove.

    Right. ActiveSync will not show up under Add/Remove in Control Panel. Try Windows components in Add/Remove, but I don't think it's in there either. I'm posting from Vista right now and Vista does not use ActiveSync, so I can't check for you real quick. So check that, and then do this: Download and install the latest version of AS 4.5 from Microsoft's website and install it right OVER your existing install. At the worst, it won't work, but you can't really damage anything. In fact, it may tell you and then do for you an uninstallation of the OLD AS that you're trying to remove. Just try it. ActiveSync is SUCH a POS. I hate it even though it works for me because I like Vista's way of doing that a TON better. Let me know if the above worked. Make sure you get 4.5 (FIVE) and NOT beta. 4.5 has now come out of beta. Best of luck! :)
