I hate that the cd starts up everytime I put it in the cd slot. I want to undo the auto start upon insertion. I was able to do this in win 98 but can't find where to do this in 2000! Thanks for all replies!

I found this mskb article with a groups.google.com search:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q155217&
How to Enable or Disable Automatically Running CD-ROMs

I noticed that it is STILL possible to temporarily disable autorunning a particular CD:
"you can press and hold down one of the SHIFT
key while you insert the CD-ROM. "

Also if you have tweakUI installed look for the option to enable or disable autoplaying of data and audio CDs (it's on the paranoia tab in the Win95 version).

Change the value of the following key to 0:-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\currentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\Autorun
