How to stop IE from opening up 12 or more windows at the same time

Hi
I sure hope that I can get an answer to my problem.
Today I went to go online and all of a sudden my IE was opening up windows, at first I could get them to close but then after a couple of minutes I had at least 30 of the darn things open and had to shut down my PC manually.
Can anyone help me to figure out how to stop this from happening.

My operating system is XP and I have IE 6.0

Sounds like you went to a....errr.... "questionable" site. Warez and **** sites are infamous for doing that. The windows open so fast you can't keep up.

There are threeways to stop that - don't go to warez or **** sites , install and run a popup stopper or turn off scripting in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Level button. The problem with turning off scripting is that it's needed for some legitimate sites to function properly so you end up turning it off and on a lot.

You can find numerous popup stoppers to download by doing a Google search for popup stopper. I use Panicware's free Popup Stopper Basic (scroll down for the free version) but there are plenty of others if that one doesn't suit you.
