Hi Everyone, because there are so many pc gurus on this site, I wondered if anyone can help me with getting faster internet speed while I'm sufing.
I have an HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop with 73 gigs free and have the Hughes Net Satellite for my internet connections via a D Link Extreme router. I searched online for some info and wondered if anyone knows anything about the following software to accomplish faster speed:
Active Speed; Internet Booster by Jvw; XP Tweak Mechanic by Jvw; Speed Connect Internet Accelerator 7.5.1.
I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions.
    Thank you.

Well we can start with a fast connection for one. :D

I have found out that if you block advertisements & flash, you can speed up your browsing.
You can also try another DNS service like OpenDNS to see if that makes any difference.
If you use IE try FireFox.

Other than that, I don't think browsing speeds could be impacted much.

Hi elaine. Go to http://enhanceie.com/ie/tweaks.asp and scroll down to where it says Speed tweaks. Click Increase the connection limit link to download a registry file. Run it and click yes to allow the registry entries to merge into the registry. Once thats done restart Internet Explorer. :)

Satellite connections have high latency, so speed will always be a problem (IMHO)

Also you may not have noticed, The satellite company only compares their service to dial up. Pony express beats dial up.

There are some tweaks that you can do to your computer to be the best it can be but once that is done, the only thing that will speed you up is a faster connection and a faster browser.

Here is a link for tweaking your computer.

Firefox 3.0.1 is faster than IE7 and IE8 beta.

There is a forum on this BBS that will tell you everything you want to know about Firefox. Firefox is at the Mozilla site. The BBS forum is listed in the home page for windowsBBS.

Yes you can transfer your stuff from IE to Firefox. If you use Thunderbird, you can transfer all your email stuff from OE to TB.

Firefox and Thunderbird are separate apps.

If you like to keep your browser and your email in one app, there is Seamonkey for that.
