Resolved How To Setup Email In Windows 8.1

Can anyone give me specific advice regarding email setup in 8.1.
I have gmail working ok, it also runs in Outlook.com, but this is an animal that I don't really understand on how it works.
At the moment I am accessing my providers email via webmail, but I don't like that except when I am traveling. My email I get from the provider is POP3, again I don't understand IMAP.

On my XP machine that I will be retiring once I get the 8.1 machine all sorted out I have been using Incredimail POP3 for the last 20 years I think.
I know a lot of people don't like it, well I do, and it has never given me any problems whats so ever, so naturally I would love to have that program running with 8.1. Can I just install it and will it run independently from Outlook.com or will Outlook.com take it over.
My gmail also runs in outlook.com but the interface is terrible compared to the normal gmail.
I am not sure if I was able to explain myself correctly for anyone to understand what I am talking about.

According to my granddaughter, the latest version of Incredimail runs fine in Windows 8.1.

 

Bill, I use gmail as the server and Thunderbird as the client. I made the change from Telecom yahoo/xtra (pop3) to gmail and it was as easy as to set up and the change was to imap (incoming mail) and smtp as the outgoing mail.
I've been using this for 2 years now without any problems. Neil.

 

I have installed Incredimail POP3 und it is running fine.
