I want to set up a home network (both ethernet and wireless) on a Vista Business PC and access another PC which has XP PRO installed.

I have searched and read some posts (including some pages on the Microsoft site) which appear to be related to my question but could not determine what to do.

I also seem to remember reading (a long time ago before I started using Vista) that there is or could be a problem accessing shared folders on an XP PC from a PC which has Vista.
It was easy in XP (just run Set UP a Home or Small Office Network from My Network Places).
Could someone please point me to somewhere I can read up how to do this on a Vista PC and/or explain how to overcome any problems networking XP and Vista PC's.
    Thanks

Did you find anything helpful? What is the situation now?

I might move this to the networking forum.

Checks I would mention (if you are happy to do some research if you need to):
The computers are getting their IP address automatically (via DHCP).
Their Subnet Mask should be the same.
You should see if (File and Printing) Sharing is enabled.
Check whether Vista is set for private or public networking, you want private.
Networking cross-platform computers (different operating systems) can be easier if you have the same user profile and password on both computers. That is, you log in under the same name with the same password on both computers (and your profile is an administrator).

Yes move this post to the networking forum.
Unfortunately I have not had time to try and work this out. I have gone to the web site and also some others I found after 'googling' the question.
It would seem that due to improved security with Vista that i is not straight forward to network to an XP PC but I have quite a few things to check and change if necessary.
I will close this post and reopen it if I find that I am still having problems.
    Thanks

Thanks JP. See what you can find. Let us know if you can get a specific resolution.
