I think it should be noted that article is not intended to be used as an excuse to keep using W7. It is something helpful only until the W7 system can be migrated to W10 - which should be a top priority. It is not like MS sprung this on anyone.

I note the How-To Geek starts out by saying,
It is important to note no one knows how long W7 will remain safe to use. It could be a couple years before a critical, exploitable vulnerability is discovered, or it could be tomorrow. And the problem is not just that the W7 system may become compromised. The problem is it may be compromised then used against the rest of us to distribute malware or spam, or drafted into a bot army as a zombie participating in a DDoS attack against one of our city, infrastructure, hospital or financial networks. Not good.

Very true Bill. One would expect viewers to read the article thoroughly and take note of the warnings - not just a selective reading to suit a need.;)

LOL Well, we can hope. Sadly, there will always be some who resist change out of some misguided protest against Microsoft. Others will resist change because they think they are smarter than the bad guys. Sure, Microsoft is in it for the money, but advances in the hardware state-of-the-art necessitates advances in operating systems to ensure hardware compatibility and support.

And new security threats need new and greater defenses. Yes, most bad guys are not the smartest - but some are. And we must not forget that either.
