How to remove "unread messages" from pre-log in ?

    I'm using XP with IE. On one of the "users ", I keep getting an advisory that there are "233 unread messages" along side the icon where you click to "log on ". This is associated with an e-mail server that has been discontinued and I cannot get it to stop displaying this messages.

    Any ideas how I can re-set it to correspond to the correct e-mail server - or just get it to quit displaying this message?
