A few days ago I was editing some photos and must have mistakenly clicked on something that caused one of those photos to become my Desktop background. I didn’t want it there, and when I got rid of it the icon labels were in the wrong format and the mouse cursor was shadowed. I eventually got everything sorted out, but in the midst of doing so I got to someplace that showed user accounts. I thought I’d be clever and approve of Administrator. Now every time I boot up, the welcome screen shows two accounts, Administrator and mine (with Administrator privileges). How do I get things so the Administrator account doesn’t continue to be displayed? I don’t remember my own account ever being displayed there before, either, so I’d like to stop it from appearing, too, if I could.

I’d appreciate it if someone could explain how to do those two things.

My system details are in my signature, below.

LATER: I just did a Google search and found several relevant items but they talk about doing a complicated Reg edit. Since I caused the problem by merely adding an X to a little box, can I undo that by just getting back to wherever that box is and unchecking it?

Thanks for the reply and the link, Evan. I've been working and working and don't seem able to get past the first step (see copied directions from your link, below).

First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing "Run as administrator" (or use the Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box).

How am I supposed to do that first step? Right-clicking on the Search window just brings up a small menu with everything grayed out except Paste. Everything else the directions tell me to do doesn't work because I haven't gotten that first step done right.

Click Start< All Programs< Accessories< Right click on Command Prompt in the list and select Run as administrator to open the window.

Success! Like with a lot of things, the job turned out to be easy for someone who knows what he's doing. A shutdown and reboot showed that not only is the Administrator icon now hidden, but so is mine. The welcome screen now shows only "Welcome," as it did originally and is the way I want it.

Thanks again for the help, Evan.
