AVG scan was working until last month in my XP.(hp media center). I am the administrator.
Last month all of a sudden it stopped working. When I open it, it gives me the error message 'This program cannot be opened because of the software restriction policies.'
I looked at the event log and it says
'Access to C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG2014\avgui.exe has been restricted by your Administrator by location with policy rule {7f180616-48ab-4c71-a803-444c775f478b} placed on path C:\Program Files\AVG'
I don't have sufficient knowledge to understand this.
    Could someone help me? Thanks.

Hi kanne, I would Download the latest AVG version from their web site and Save to Desktop.
Then disconnect your Internet cable. Go to Control Panel > Add & Remove Programs > and Remove AVG from the comp.
Then open and load the new copy.
If you can't Remove the old copy - then you might need something like Revo-Uninsatller to get rid of it.
If it works OK - connect your cable again.

Does a Right click on the AVG open the box to open as Administrator? Neil.

Thanks for the suggestions. I uninstalled and reinstalled like you said, Still I get the error message. Also, I tried other Internet security scans like Symantec, Malwarebytes .
I get the same error message "cannot be opened because of software restriction policies.'' I talked to AVG customer service. They say that I have to fix the problem in the registry - I don't understand what that is!
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Thanks for the help, Neil. I tried the link and paid $29.99 for RegCurePro. They said there is third party malware in my system and sent me a link to Combofix. I ran that scan. Still I have the same problem. Any other ideas to remove the software restriction policy? Thanks for your time.

That RegCurePro is nothing but JUNK. Get your $$$ back if you can.

When you hit the Save Button a dialogue box opens headed Save As - select Desktop (icon to the left of the main pane).

Sorry kanne, I didn't mean to get into the RegCurePro stuff. I see Arie has suggested Malware Forum where Broni will look after you. Neil.

When I hit Save File Button, it downloads invisibly. In Firefox, I had to go to Tools, then downloads to see the file. Could you please give me the steps to save it in Desktop? Thanks for your time.

I rarely use Firefox, but go to Tools > Options - General Tab and check 'Always ask me where to save files' When you hit Save File a windows Explorer window should open - select Desktop.
