While on a web page in IE7 I was told I had to obtain video active x object. Have searched MSDN and also IE7 MSDN to no avail. Can anyone tell me were to obtain this item. When I use youtube and other sites I dont seem to have a problem with the viewer, so, maybe what I need is an update if there is one. I have video mpeg and video xms listed under tools/manage add on's but nothing under active x controls tab.

Thanks for the reply Evan. I recently downloaded adobe 8 reader, is that combined with the player? pop up just states I need video activex object. I didnt know adobe player even entered into the picture when on the web, just did a search for "adobe player" and came up with zilch. And the only thing I see under (all programs) is the adobe reader, no mention of adobe player.

After a little Googling for video active x object I very much fear that it may well be a trojan which would like to install itself on your computer.

I suggest you read this announcement ......

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/announcement.php?f=41

and post an HJT log in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum for a check out - include the background detail from your first post.

If Adobe Flash Player had been required I feel sure that it would have been specified.

Hi Pete -- I had heard of that myself also, a communication about imbeding code in pics., also did a little google myself after the commo. with Evan. I agree, it may have been trying to get a virus on me. The red flag got raised when I realized that other items were working OK for me and that made me suspicious. All that being said, shouldn't I have an activex folder on my system like the one I had back in 95/98 days? I checked tools/manage add ons and found an item Shock Wave Flash Object ,Activex Control , flash9e.ocx listed as enabled. Is there an upgrade for this that you may know of. Or should I just let a sleeping dog lie.

Look in IE > Tools > Internet Options > General tab - Browsing History - Settings > View Objects.

I suggest you check out your system with Secunia Software Inspector which will advise if you have vulnerable/outdated versions of certain software, including Shockwave Flash and provide links to the latest, secure version. Sign up for the Reminder service and you will receive an email each time they update their databases.

For peace of mind I would post that HJT log.
